Adding to the ongoing list of commitments to Michigan State University hockey, the Spartans landed three noteworthy commits eligible to join during the 27-28 season. These commits are a local Michigan player and two out-of-state players, who are also playing for the top development program in Michigan.
First on the list is Brody George, a 4.25 star recruit out of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. George is ranked no. 26 of the eligible NCAA players of the 2008 class.
During his 23-24 season, George played for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 15U team, where he played 61 games during the season, as well as putting up an incredible number of 32 goals and 32 assists.
The left-handed forward is headed to the United States National Team Development program in Plymouth, Michigan to continue his training.
From Chesterfield MI, Chase Reid is a home state recruit for the Spartans. Reid will be bringing his defensive play to the Waterloo Blackhawks in the United States Hockey League (USHL).
Reid played for the Victory Honda 16U AAA team during the 23-24 season, putting up 14 goals and 48 assists in 68 games. He also played 12 games with the Victory Honda’s Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, or T1EHL, where he put up 4 assists and 5 points, and rounded out his year with 10 games for Waterloo, but did not record any points.
Jonas Kemps rounds out the young class of the newest recruits. From Southern California, Kemps played for the 15U AAA Anaheim Ducks Jr. team, where the defenseman had 25 assists and 39 points during the season with the 15U team, and played 13 games, recording a goal and seven assists with the T1EHL team for the Jr. Ducks.
Kemps has committed to carrying his development over to the USNTDP in Michigan.
Nick Bogas is the latest commit to the Spartan hockey program, and is the son of Chris Bogas, who played for the Michigan State Spartans from 1995-1999.
The Bloomfield Hill MI native played for the 15U AAA Oakland Junior Grizzlies where the young defenseman had 39 points (12 goals, 27 assists) in 64 games.
Bogas was selected in the second round of the USHL draft in May 2024 by the Waterloo Blackhawks, where he has potential to play next season.
Another commitment to the team comes from 2008 born forward, Jack Hextall. From Rolling Meadows, IL. Hextall played for the 15U AAA Chicago Mission, where he played 64 games and had 29 goals and 88 points.
Hextall’s upcoming season will be played in the USHL with the Youngstown Phantoms.
Since the reign of head coach Adam Nightingale, the development and rise of the Spartan hockey program continues to grow from a former no. 4 seed in the country to a progressive power house of NCAA hockey.
