Beauchamp will stay at MSU through June 30 before heading to Georgetown University to serve as its executive vice president for health sciences and executive dean at the School of Medicine. In an email announcing Beauchamp’s departure, President Kevin Guskiewicz said Beauchamp felt strongly called to Georgetown’s mission.

“While sad to see Dr. Beauchamp leave MSU, I am also happy for him as he feels strongly called to the mission at Georgetown as the nation’s largest and most prominent Catholic academic health center with a focus on caring for the most vulnerable among us,” the email said. “Located in our nation’s capital, there is a unique opportunity to hasten the pace of delivering compassionate health and health care locally, nationally and internationally.”

From the creation of both a human medicine and osteopathic medicine school to the establishment of medical partnerships in Flint, Grand Rapids and Detroit, Beauchamp has made a number of important contributions to the university, University Spokesperson Emily Guerrant said.

“He's also just a wonderfully empathetic person,” Guerrant said. “And he is always thinking about how, in terms of health care, how are we helping the patient, how are we helping people and society and is just the right type of person you want to lead those efforts. We are sad to see him leave.”

In his email, Guskiewicz said he will be taking time to “assess and determine a succession plan.” Guerrant said Beauchamp will use his final months at the university working with his leadership team to ensure a smooth transition and the continuation of important partnerships.
