Four different Michigan State women’s basketball players were awarded postseason accolades on Tuesday before the start of the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, which starts on Wednesday, March 6.

The postseason honors are voted on by both the league’s 14 coaches and the media and the awards were announced by the conference office on Tuesday, March 5.

Graduate student guard/forward and co-captain Julia Ayrault was named to the first All-Big Ten team by both the coaches and the media. Ayrault had a strong season playing out of her listed guard position as she averaged 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game throughout the season. Hagemann led the Big Ten in a 2.9 assists-turnover ratio, as she finished the season with 142 assists and only 49 turnovers. Hagemann averaged 5.1 assists per game while also putting up 12.6 points per game.

Sophomore guard Theryn Hallock was chosen as the Sixth Player of the Year for her stellar bench play. In total, Michigan State’s bench scored 740 points during the season and Hallock was responsible for 325 of them. Hallock finished the season averaging 11.2 points and 2.7 assists per game.

Although the Spartans have received their honors, the job is not finished as the Big Ten tournament starts for them on Friday. MSU earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and landed a couple extra days of practice. Before Tuesday’s session, head coach Robyn Fralick talked about how proud she is of her team.

“I think they deserve it, and so I’m really proud," Fralick said. "I’m really happy that they’ve earned those (awards) over the course of the season."

Fralick also spoke about the “cool stories” the Spartans being honored this year have had throughout the season.

“I mean Julia, how far she’s come and to go from where she was a year ago to first team All-league is a story worth listening to," Fralick said. "Mo (Joiner) and DeeDee as well have really elevated their games this season so I was really happy to see them acknowledged for that."

Fralick also said that Hallock has provided the team a spark of energy off of the bench this year while also giving some credit to Tory Ozment.

“(She's) very deserving of the Sixth Player of the Year award," Fralick said. "I think she is the definition of the spark, when she checks in the game changes. I have got to give credit to Tory (Ozment). We've called them (both) ‘TNT dynamite’ all season for a reason."

The Spartans will be heading out to Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday to prepare for their first game in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday, March 8. Streaming will be available on Big Ten Network.
