After coaching six seasons from 2018-2023 at the University of Minnesota, Joe Rossi has been hired by head coach Jonathan Smith as the new Secchia Family Defensive Coordinator and linebackers coach.

From a university press release, coach Rossi has been one of the best defensive coordinators and linebackers coaches in the Big Ten conference. During his time at Minnesota, Rossi's defense has been ranked among the top 10 in the FBS three different times.

“Joe Rossi has been nationally recognized for constructing one of the best defenses in the nation over the past few seasons,” Coach Smith said in the press release. “He has extensive experience in all areas of the defense throughout his career and has developed all-conference players and NFL Draft picks. He is also very familiar coaching in the Big Ten Conference. I’m excited to have Joe and his family join our staff in East Lansing.”

Rossi is a two-time Broyles award nominee, and has coached 30 All-Big Ten nominees. Coach Rossi has joined Smith and 12 other new coaches at Michigan State.
