Coming off of a split weekend against the Minnesota Golden Gophers that saw a shootout win against the Golden Gophers for the first time since 2020, the Spartans have made some subtle changes in polls in the ninth week of the season.
In the USCHO rankings of week nine, Michigan State dropped down a spot to No. 8 after a hard fought series against Minnesota, winning one in a shootout thanks to the career high game from freshman goalie Trey Augustine and losing one in overtime.
In the USA Hockey polls, the Spartans stayed the same in the at their solid seventh place spot, but surrounding them in that ranking, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers switched spots. The Gophers are now ahead of the Spartans by one at No. 6 and the Badgers behind by one at No. 8.
The team heads to a bye week during the first weekend in Dec., taking the time to practice up for another top 20 matchup against No. 20 Notre Dame at home on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 for their last home series until the Great Lakes Invitational in late Dec. at Grand Rapid’s Van Andel Arena.
