The MSU Museum will be bringing back its “First Friday” events this fall. These events, which take place on the first Friday of each month, allow MSU students to come together to enjoy different themes, free food and win prizes.
“Our team at the MSU Museum has worked closely with students to craft these First Friday themes and activities, ensuring that they offer an immersive and engaging experience for our college community,” MSU Museum Director Devon Akmon said in a press release last Tuesday.
Last year was the first year that the MSU museum ran the First Friday events. Organizers hope that it continues to bring success and recognition to the museum in hopes to make these events annual.
“Last year we had an average of around 150 students attend each event,” Communications Manager Stephanie Palagyi said. “It was really fun for all the students, and it was too good not to bring back.”
Not only does First Fridays allow students to congregate with their peers, it also lets students have a better chance to view the museum itself. Students that are signed up for the event are allowed to roam all three floors of the museum to explore what it has to offer.
“Our goal for First Fridays is to get students to come into the museum and have fun activities to participate in.” Palagyi said. “It’s really a special night for our MSU students.”
The opening event of First Fridays, “Museum Mystery," kicks off on Oct. 6. This event challenges students to put on their detective hat, follow the clues around the museum, and work together to solve the mystery.
Once the mystery is solved, students can enjoy free refreshments and get the chance to win different prizes. To cap off the night, a secret mystery movie will be played in the auditorium.
Over the next couple of months, the First Friday events will continue to take place, each with a different theme. On Nov. 3, students are invited to the “Chills and Thrills” event where local storytellers will tell Lansing ghost stories. On Dec. 1, students are welcome to celebrate global traditions, such as food, dance and music. On Jan. 12, students can search for the golden ticket in a Willy Wonka themed Friday called "The Golden Ticket."
These events run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MSU Museum. While admission is free, the spots are limited. Students can register in advance at the MSU Museum website or in person.
