Michigan State University is introducing a new walk-through metal detector system at Spartan Stadium, the MSU Police and Public Safety office announced on Wednesday in a press release.

The metal detectors are part of MSU’s ongoing enhancement of the university’s safety and security portfolio.

“This new addition to Spartan Stadium will continue to make sure the venue remains safe for all to enjoy,” Vice President and Chief Safety Officer Marlon Lynch said in the release.

When entering the stadium, guests will not be required to empty the contents of their pockets unless the metal detector alarms, in which case a security wand wil be used.

On top of Spartan Stadium and the already-existing metal detectors at the Breslin Center, new metal detectors are also being installed in the Wharton Center, Munn Ice Arena and MSU Tennis Center.

The metal detectors will be installed ahead of the Sep. 9 football game against University of Richmond.
