After barely falling out of the first round, former Michigan State baseball standout infielder Mitch Jebb was selected with the 42nd pick in the 2023 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The shortstop put together a very impressive three year statline with Michigan State, maintaining a .237 batting average to go with 35 doubles and 97 RBIs. He also helped lead MSU to their best season in seven years, winning their first Big Ten Tournament game since 2016.
The Saginaw native was ranked at 46th on MLB.com’s pre-draft board.
Jebb is the highest selected Spartan in the draft since Mark Mulder was picked number two overall in 1998 by the Oakland Athletics. His selection also marks the end of the one year draftless streak for the green and white.
