Senior guard Tyson Walker made headlines last month when, upon returning from his star performance in Michigan State's 69-60 victory over Marquette in the NCAA Tournament, he posted an Instagram story saying his car had been towed while he was in Columbus.

According to records obtained by The State News from MSU’s Department of Police and Public Safety, the violation that resulted in the towing was his sixth unpaid ticket and his vehicle was in a handicapped space on campus.

A Board of Trustees ordinance gives MSU’s parking enforcers the authority to impound vehicles after six unpaid violations.

The five previous unpaid tickets were not in handicap spaces, but were in reserved areas which carry higher fines than metered parking.

Walker paid the accumulated $403 in fees on March 20.

Walker also had six continuous unpaid tickets during fall semester, though those fees only totaled $230 without the costly handicap violation.

Walker was not available for comment at time of publication. MSU Basketball did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The State News.
