The Michigan State gymnastics team will be heading to Pittsburgh for the NCAA Regional competition. The Spartans finished the regular season as the No. 10 team in the country to punch their ticket to the regional round.

The team, staff and supporters gathered in Jenison Field House on Monday afternoon for a selection show watch party that would decide their regionals fate.

MSU will be joined in Pittsburgh by No. 2 Florida, No. 7 California, No. 15 Arizona State, No. 24 Maryland, No. 26 Western Michigan and No. 29 West Virginia. Those seven teams are automatically in the second round of the competition. No. 31 Towson and No. 32 Penn State will be the two teams competing in the first play-in round of the Pittsburgh Regionals for the eighth and final spot in round two.

After the second round, the top four scoring teams will move onto the third and final round of regionals to battle it out for a ticket to nationals in Fort Worth, Texas. The top two teams from the final round of regionals will be advancing.

“We appreciate all the support we’ve been getting. I’m really proud of this team we put together here,” head gymnastics coach Mike Rowe said Monday. “We set out from the beginning of the year this year as team 49 looking to create their own identity, and they’ve really been doing a great job at getting there and doing it.”

Michigan State will first compete on Friday, March 31 in the second round, and if the Spartans advance, they will take to the floor for the regional finals on Sunday, April 2. The Pittsburgh regionals will be streamed on ESPN+.
