Former MSU coach Cathy George named head coach of West Michigan Pro Volleyball

Former Michigan State head volleyball coach Cathy George was named as the head coach and director of operations of West Michigan Pro Volleyball Monday morning.

The former Spartan head coach lead Michigan State volleyball for 17 seasons before announcing her retirement in January 2022. George retired as the winningest coach in Spartan volleyball history, having taken her squad to the NCAA tournament 10 times over the course of 2005-2021.

It was announced Monday that George signed a multi-year contract with the Pro Volleyball Federation franchise. The Pro Volleyball Federation is set to debut in February, 2024 as the premier professional volleyball league in North America.

The West Michigan Pro Volleyball team is owned and operated by DP Fox Sports & Entertainment. The firm, which is owned by Dan DeVos, has yet to announce an official team name and logo, but both are set to be announced later this spring.
