Michigan State Director of Athletics Alan Haller announced Thursday afternoon that the university will participate in scheduled games this weekend, both home and on the road.

After the tragic mass shooting on Monday night, MSU Athletics has been speaking with mental health professionals and Spartan athletes and staff to determine when athletics will recommence.

"In consultation with mental health professionals and in conversations with our student-athletes it became apparent that a return to practice and competition is a crucial part of their recovery," Haller said in a statement. "Student-athletes were given an active voice in the decision to return to competition, as well as the autonomy to make their own individual choices about participation."

This includes the rivalry men's basketball game against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday night at 8 p.m. and women's basketball plans to welcome Maryland at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

MSU men's tennis will no longer travel to Virginia but is set to host Drake Saturday at 10 a.m. instead, a match initially scheduled for Wednesday Feb. 15.

Hockey traveled to Madison, Wisconsin on Wednesday, in preparation for its weekend series against the Badgers.

Softball (Elon N.C), baseball (Arizona) and women's golf (Melbourne, Fla.) are scheduled to leave on Thursday for weekend competitions.

The gymnastics meet originally slated for Friday at Illinois has been postponed until further notice.

Women's tennis weekend matches (versus Marshall and Columbia) have been canceled.

The original story was updated to reflect the change to the women's tennis schedule.
