With a goal of professional development, the Board of Trustees is in the process of entering an agreement with a consulting service, trustee Dianne Byrum said. The board passed a resolution on Jan. 11, authorizing newly-elected chair Rema Vassar to set the agreement.

Before Vassar’s election, Byrum introduced the resolution, stating the board’s commitment to reviewing board governance. Byrum said she anticipates a letter of engagement to be signed this month.

“We’ve spoken about (board governance review) to both faculty and student liaisons,“ Byrum said. “And this is that first step, to engage with consultants so that you know we are serious about this and this work will start as soon as possible.”

The Faculty Senate passed a resolution on Sept. 13, 2022 asking the board to undergo professional development after the announcement that former president Samuel L. Stanley Jr.’s contract was under discussion. The board’s resolution states the consulting services will be used for board governance review as well as board by-laws and policy development.
