The only other Spartan to join the 1,000-point club this year was senior guard Tyson Walker on Nov. 15 in the Champions Classic.

“When I got mine someone told me that’s not a normal thing, 1,000 points is not normal,” Walker said. “Out of a million people that play, probably 200 of them get it. It’s a big thing.”

Hauser notched a total of 22 points along with four assists to lead the Spartans in scoring against the Brown Bears. Off the glass, Hauser collected five rebounds, three on offense and two on the defensive end. 

Hauser said the shift from his first half with four points to a total of 22 at the end of the game can be attributed to being more aggressive. 

Hauser, a transfer from Marquette, has made major strides this season alone. In his final year at Michigan State, Hauser is beginning to show his full potential and is a staple for MSU’s shortened 2022-23 season roster.

Hauser said that he had no idea that he had hit the 1,000-point mark until seeing it on the scoreboard. 

“I don’t know if I could have dreamt that up in my head ever ,” Hauser said. “An arena of 10,000 people chanting my name. More importantly, my teammates were surrounding me and congratulating me. That was the most special part of it.”

Hauser said he had a moment with Head Coach Tom Izzo following the arena wide celebration. 

"I couldn't be prouder of him, but the rest of my team too for acknowledging it,” Izzo said.

The team jumped to its feet as soon as Hauser’s accomplishment was announced on the scoreboard, each one of his teammates congratulating him down the line as he took the bench. 

“I think we’re a very close-knit team and we try with things like that,” junior guard A.J Hoggard said. “Seeing somebody hit a milestone and accomplishment like that and just being happy for your brother, I'm just happy that he got to complete that and I was there to witness it.”

Izzo said that he’s seen that support and excitement from his guys this year and it goes to show the type of team they are.

“Watching Mady (Sissoko) after the Kentucky game and how the guys rallied around him, watching A.J. (Hoggard) after the Penn State game and the scene in the locker room and watching Joey today and how they gravitated to him,” Izzo said. “That’s three different people and that means your team does care about each other and is having some fun.”

The Spartans will have a much-needed 10-day game break, followed by a matchup against Oakland on Dec. 21 at the Breslin Center. 

"It's been game, scout team, a lot of film and practice," Hauser said. "We've been on the court a lot. We need a couple days off that's for sure.”
