“The biggest thing that we’ve leaned on is, the community is very supportive of their college students,” said Green.

According to Green, this support has led the company to make improvements and grow.

One of the most recent upgrades within the company is the development of the UniServices app. The implementation of an app allows for improved accessibility among users, which would lead more people to employ students for their tasks. 

Chief technology officer and computer science senior Hemkesh Agrawal is another recent addition to the team.

“It was a lot of manual work (before the app),” Agrawal said. “We had to cap the number of jobs and students that we would have. But with the app everything is streamlined.”

With an app, the company can accommodate more appointments than they did before, when they were using a Google TasksBoard to book jobs.

“I have a couple of clients who are fully blind,” said UniServices employee Zoe Yanik. “The TasksBoard is not something that they can currently operate ... I think it would be a lot easier if they had an app and they would also make tasks and have people pick them up a little bit more smoothly than we've currently got going on.”

The company is also now partnering with TinkerLab to create a system where college students can tutor K-12 students in their local communities. The system is called Tinker 2.0 and the tutoring specializes in STEM programs and the arts. 

“It’s an after-school program for K-12 kids to come in,” Green said. “So every night of the week would have a different subject or topic area. And they have a beautiful facility on Grand River.”

Green said UniServices is now expanding beyond the East Lansing and Okemos area, moving to Grand Valley University as well as looking to expand to other colleges.

According to Green, this is “the most exciting period” of time for the company.
