Michigan State Women’s basketball Head Coach Suzy Merchant has officially agreed to a contract extension through 2027.

The contract was apporved at Friday's Board of Trustees meeting. Specific terms of the deal have yet to be announced.

Over the 15 seasons that she has been coach of the team, she has garnered over 300 wins and has finished third or better in Big Ten play in eight of those seasons.

The Spartans have won 20 games in 10 of those seasons as well.

Merchant has a conference record of 152-102 (59.8%), which is good for a top 12 career win percentage in the 36 year history of the conference.

During her time as coach, 49 Spartans have earned All-Big Ten recognition and 76 have garnered Academic All-Big Ten selections.

Despite all of the injuries the team battled through last season, Merchant led the Spartans to a 15-15 record and an 8-9 mark in conference play, highlighted by a 63-57 win over No. 4 Michigan. She also earned her 500th career victory with a win over Valparaiso last November.

Merchant will start her 16th season at the helm this Sunday with a tip off at 3 p.m. in an exhibition against Saginaw Valley State.
