Michigan State women's soccer isn't only celebrating its Sunday victory over rival Michigan.
The Spartans are ranked 15th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and 22nd in the TopDrawerSoccer national poll, MSU’s first time being nationally ranked since Sept. 29, 2009.
During the 2009 season, the Spartans began with an impressive 7-0-2 record. They ended the season 11-5-4 overall, showing face in the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons (2008-09) where they lost to Santa Clara 1-0.
It's no coincidence that the team is ranked for the first time in over 10 years under the leadership of second year Head Coach Jeff Hosler. Last season, Hosler led the team close to a chance at the NCAA tournament title, falling to Iowa 1-0 on Oct. 30.
With the 2022 season in full swing, MSU (10-1-3) hasn’t lost once in its last six games (5-0-1) and is heading into its final four games of the regular season.
The Spartans are currently leading the Big Ten alongside No. 5 Northwestern.
Senior forward Lauren DeBeau and graduate defender Ruby Diodati received recognition from TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News for their contributions to Sunday's game against the Wolverines.
MSU women's soccer will continue its stride as it hosts the Indiana on Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by a road trip to Northwestern Oct. 16.
