Michigan State and Wisconsin's men's tennis teams before the Nation Anthem at MSU Indoor Tennis Facility, on March 25, 2022. Spartans lose 5-2 against Wisconsin.

MSU men's tennis freshman Ozan Baris claimed the U.S. Open Junior doubles championship with partner Nishesh Basavareddy over the weekend.

The duo swept Switzerland’s Dylan Dietrich and Bolivia's Juan Carlos Prado Angelo six to one in both sets.

The tandem entered the tournament as the eighth seed, but upset the number two and three seeds to advance to Saturday's title game where they were victorious as well.

Baris and Basavareddy are the first American doubles team to win the title since Eliot Spizzirri and Tyler Zink in 2019.

Baris, a five-star blue-chip prospect, is currently ranked as the fifth best player in the nation as well as number one in Michigan and the Great Lakes Region.

The Okemos native won an individual and state title at Okemos High School in 2018 and has since competed in all four junior Grand Slams.

MSU men's tennis begins fall tournament play at next week's Wildcat Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky. The three-day tournament will run from Friday to Sunday.
