The Lansing Board of Education will be holding a Special Election on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Those residing in Precincts 1, 5 and 17 of East Lansing are eligible to vote as members of the Lansing School District.
The election is called to vote on whether the school district should borrow $129,700,000 to revamp school facilities. This could involve building new schools or renovating old ones, installing new technological equipment, improving playgrounds and athletic fields and re-furnishing school buildings.
This would add a millage, or local tax rate, of 58 cents to every $1,000.
According to the proposal, the district does not plan to borrow from the State of Michigan to pay off this bond.
For those who wish to vote in the election, registration to vote online or by mail ends Monday, April 18.
Absentee ballots are available at the City Clerk’s office, where there is a dropbox to submit them, as well.
The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m to receive ballots.
