Michigan State tight end Connor Heyward was selected by the Pittsburgh in the sixth round of the NFL draft.

Heyward was a five-year senior who began his career as a returner and running back for the Spartans. After Mel Tucker took over midway through his career, Heyward began the transition to playing tight end or H-back in the MSU offense.

He totaled 35 catches for 326 yards and two touchdowns in his final season at MSU and was often the lead back for fellow draftee Kenneth Walker III. His play this year at a new position rocketed him into draft consideration two years after he almost left MSU through the transfer portal.

Heyward continues his family’s NFL legacy, joining his brother Cameron who also plays defensive tackle for the Steelers and his father Craig who was a running back in the NFL for 11 years.
