Michigan State sophomore defenseman Aiden Gallacher has entered the transfer portal, a team spokesperson has confirmed.
Gallacher, a Rochester Hills native, joined the program after two productive seasons for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. His impact doesn't jump off the scoresheet with just four career points, but Gallacher has been a mainstay in the lineup in two years at MSU. He scored his first career goal Nov. 11 versus Ferris State, an empty-netter to help secure a 2-0 victory.
If Gallacher indeed decides to leave East Lansing, it puts a legitimate wrinkle in the defensive plans for next season. The Spartans lost three senior defensemen, Dennis Cesana, Christian Krygier and Cole Krygier, leaving half of the room gone. That leaves just five defensemen on the roster for next season: sophomore Nash Nienhuis, freshman David Gucciardi, sophomore Powell Connor, sophomore Cal Dybicz, and incoming freshman Matt Basgall.
The move comes just days after senior goaltender Drew DeRidder announced his transfer to North Dakota, exercising his fifth year of eligibility.
