Only those hired on or before Sept. 1, 2021, and who will continue to be employed on Jan. 1, 2022, are eligible.  

In the email, Stanley expressed that although MSU has undergone, and continues to undergo, pandemic-related financial struggles, they are able to fund this bonus as their short-term situation has stabilized. 

The bonus will be paid from MSU reserves. 

“We can take these actions because our short-term situation has further stabilized, making us confident we can utilize one-time reserves to fund this well-deserved bonus,” Stanley wrote in the email. 

This announcement comes in addition to mid-year raises for faculty and academic staff and three extra days off during winter break.

President Stanley concluded the email with the acknowledgment of the stress that the faculty has endured and announced the creation of a university-wide caregiver program to assist with their struggles. More is to come on this program in the following weeks.

"We’ve experienced unprecedented challenges. But working together, we have served our students and communities here and around the world, advancing knowledge and transforming lives with true Spartans Will," Stanley concluded.

The recognition comes in the wake of staff compensation concerns and salary cuts.
