MSU student Phat Nguyen’s preliminary autopsy report has returned with the leading factor of death confirmed as alcohol.
“We did get back the preliminary autopsy report, and alcohol is the leading contributor to his passing,” ELPD Captain Chad Connelly said. “So it is alcohol-intoxication that they’re listing as the cause of his passing.”
Early morning on Friday, Nov. 19, Pi Alpha Phi announced their four fall 2021 pledges — one of which was Nguyen.
On Nov. 20 Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene on the 400 block of Stoddard Ave. after ELPD responded to a medical assist. Three other individuals were found passed out and transported to Sparrow Hospital for recovery.
Following Nguyen’s death, the Pi Alpha Phi fraternity was put under interim suspension then revoked on Dec. 9 for an undetermined amount of time but with a minimum of 10 years.
ELPD will not be releasing any further details and alcohol is reported as the the recorded cause of death, according to Connelly.
