Michigan State women's basketball has new additions to their 2022 recruiting class in Theryn Hallock and Abbey Kimball, Michigan State women's basketball Head Coach Suzy Merchant announced today after the pair signed their National Letters of Intent.

Hallock is a 5'11" point guard from Forest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Coached by Kristina Pins, Hallock, as a junior, averaged 23.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.2 assist and 6.6 steals per game and she reached the 1,000-career point marker.

She also earned first-team all-state honors, is a three-time all-conference honoree and a top candidate for 2022 Miss Michigan Basketball. Hallock also led her team to finish seventh in the nation in the UAA national finals last season.

Hallock is the daughter to former MSU football fullback/tight end/linebacker Ty Hallock, who played from 1989-93 and was picked up by the Detroit Lions in round 7 of the 1993 NFL Draft.

She is also the younger sister to former MSU football linebacker Tanner Hallock and current MSU football redshirt sophomore safety Tate Hallock.

It seems Hallock herself has a bit of a lineage legacy to uphold once she gets here.

“Theryn brings a toughness, energy and grit to the basketball court,” Merchant said in a release. “Her ability to (affect) the game on both ends of the floor, as well as play multiple positions for us will make an immediate impact on our program. Her versatility in her skill set and her level of competitiveness is off the charts. We are thrilled to have Theryn part of the women’s basketball family and absolutely love that she is a legacy Spartan with her Dad and brothers both playing football for the Green and White along with her Mom attending MSU as well.”

Kimball is a 5'10" shooting/point guard from West Catholic High School also in Grand Rapids. Coached by Jill VanderEnde, Kimball, as a junior, averaged 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals per game and she has also reached the 1,000-career point marker. She is ranked No. 80 on the national scale and No. 18 in her position by HoopGurlz.

Kimball has also captured three consecutive seasons of first-team all-conference honors and she was selected to both the Michigan Associated Press All-State First-Team and the Grand Rapids Dream Team First-Team. She led her team to the regional final last season and is also a candidate for 2022 Miss Michigan Basketball.

"Abbey is someone we have watched play since middle school," Merchant said in the release. "Her ability to shoot the ball from deep and shoot consistently will translate well in our style of play. Her range and scoring mentality have been strengths of hers since stepping on the court. Abbey has a high IQ for the game which translates to both sides of the ball and will make an impact for us early in her career. She too comes from a Spartan family and her love of the Green and White runs deep in her family."

Both girls also have playing time for the Michigan Basketball Academy under Noelle Brown, so their relationship coming onto the court at the Breslin will have been an already long-standing one.
