Four-star athlete Dillon Tatum has officially committed to MSU on his Instagram live, making him the 20th member of Michigan State’s 2022 recruiting class,
The 5’11, two-way star from West Bloomfield is the latest commitment for Mel Tucker and the Spartans for the 2022 recruiting class.
Tatum is ranked 265th nationally in the 2022 class and is the fifth-ranked recruit in Michigan, according to 247 sports. Tatum plays both running back and defensive at West Bloomfield High School. He was recruited by both Secondary Coach Harlon Barnett and Running Backs Coach William Peagler.
Tatum is the third player in MSU’s 2022 class designated as an athlete, joining Shannon Blair and Tyrell Henry. All three have the capability to play on both sides of the ball, giving the coaching staff plenty of flexibility to be creative with the roster talent moving forward.
With a stacked backfield, Kenneth Walker III, Harold Joiner, Jordon Simmons and Elijah Collins, all of whom could return next year, Tatum might not have an opening anytime soon. He might find an immediate impact if he plays in the secondary versus at running back.
His assistance in the secondary would be big get considering the departure of defensive back Kalon Gervin, who has entered the transfer portal, and with the leader of the secondary, safety Xavier Henderson, approaching his final days as a Spartan at the conclusion of this season.
