The Big Ten, for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be selling tickets to fans for the men’s and women’s basketball Big Ten tournaments that both begin next week in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium for the men’s tournament and Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the women.
Tickets went on sale on Thursday, March 4 at Noon and students will be able to receive a student discount on the men’s tournament games.
According to an email from MSU Athletics that was sent out to students with Izzone memberships, there will be 50 tickets for each of the Michigan State men's conference tournament games and they will cost $10 for each game they play. The students selected to go will be based on The Izzone's priority points system, which rewards members who have gone to more games.
The Big Ten will be selling 8,000 tickets for the men's tournament and 2,500 for the women's tournament. Tickets for the men’s tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium will be individually sold throughout each of the individual Big Ten schools’ ticket offices. Tickets will cost $210 for upper level, $290 for the mid-level and $400 for the lower level. Students will also receive a student discount, but that price is unclear and an email to the Big Ten was not immediately returned for clarification
For the women’s tournament, tickets at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will be sold through Ticketmaster and will be priced by the round for fans. First-round tickets will cost $8, $10 for each second-round session (two games per session), $14 for the quarterfinals (two games per session), $16 for each semifinal game and $16 for the championship game.
Both tournaments will require fans to wear masks, complete a health screening before arriving, use digital tickets for the event, maintain six feet of social distance and will also be seated in “pods” of the people they come with to spread out the fans throughout each stadium.
After fans were approved through the Marion County Health Department, the Big Ten Conference Directors of Athletics and the Council of President and Chancellor chose to allow fans for the first time outside of just friends and families of the athletes and coaching staff.
Both the men and women for Michigan State basketball programs will be playing in the second round of the tournament as they both fight to make the NCAA Tournament.
The women will begin that fight on Wednesday, March 10 in the second round and the men will begin on Thursday, March 11 in the second round as well. Their opponents, tip-off times and final seed placement are not determined with a few more games left in the regular season for both teams.
