The Black Student Alliance (BSA) will be hosting their annual Black MSU pageant after a two-year hiatus from the event.

The pageant will take place in person on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at a venue that will be announced at a later date. Social distancing and testing of contestants and any attendees will be enforced, according to accounting junior Tofi Adegbite, who is the treasurer of BSA and a pageant planning committee member.

Contestants will participate in three segments; an introductory speech, talent performance and a question and answer round.

The BSA Executive Board selected Afrofuturism as the theme of the night, a concept that fuses Black culture and technology.

"It challenges Black people to use their imagination and science fiction to create a society without borders," Adegbite said. "Just, like imagining a world with many possibilities for Black people and celebrate those possibilities."

The goal of the pageant is to showcase the talents of the campus community and for contestants to have an opportunity to share their experiences and achievements, Adegbite said.

Two titles will be awarded by a panel of judges comprised of a former board member, a current board member and a wild card judge.

A first-place winner will receive the title of Mr., Ms. or Mx. Black MSU, a $250 scholarship and endorsement from the Black Students' Alliance on any future campaigns or projects.

A runner-up will be graced with the title of Mr., Ms. or Mx. 1967, the year the BSA was founded at Michigan State. This award also includes a $150 scholarship and endorsement from BSA on any future endeavors.
