After not permitting fans at any of its fall competitions, the Big Ten conference announced on Wednesday that the remaining 2020-21 season competitions will follow local health guidelines and restrictions in terms of fan attendance. This means that fan attendance will be determined on a case-by-case basis by each school in the Big Ten.
"The goal is to transition from a conference-wide approach to local decision-making in consultation with public health departments and university medical experts," the release said.
Most recently, the Big Ten permitted fans to its women's and men's basketball tournaments. The new policy came after these events and will be effective immediately.
Athletics at MSU with scheduled events remaining this season include softball, baseball, women's soccer, men's soccer, field hockey, women's tennis, men's tennis, volleyball, women's golf, men's golf, women's rowing and the spring football game.
The Big Ten Conference Directors of Athletics and the Council of Presidents and Chancellors made the decision.
Currently, only family members of players have been allowed at select sporting events on the campus of Michigan State.
