—Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo announced in Saturday that guard Joshua Langford has tested positive for COVID-19 on Dan Dakich’s Sirius XM show.
Langford is now the third player on the Spartans’ men’s basketball team to test positive for the virus in the last week joining freshman center Mady Sissoko and sophomore guard Steven Izzo.
As a result of Sissoko’s and Stephen Izzo’s positive tests, MSU’s matchups at Iowa scheduled for Jan. 14 and versus Indiana scheduled for Sunday were postponed. The next game for the Spartans is scheduled for next Saturday versus Illinois, but with Langford’s recent positive test the game could very much be in doubt.
Per Big Ten protocols, Langford must be out of the lineup for 17 days since his positive test.
After missing all of 2019 due to a foot injury, Langford decided to return to East Lansing as a graduate student with his last year of eligibility. Starting in all 11 games he has played this season, Langford has averaged 8.9 points per game while knocking down 36.6% of his three-point attempts.
The Alabama native has averaged 10.2 points per game, 1.5 assists and 2.8 rebounds during his 94 game career. Most of his per-game numbers this season were down across the board as he finally returned from injuries that occurred 13 games into the 2018-19 season.
The positive test comes as yet another setback as the graduate student reaches the finale of his career at MSU, which has been marred with injuries and questions as to whether the guard would be returning after last season.
It is unclear if any other members of the team have tested positive for COVID-19.
