The Dec. 8-9 series for Michigan State ice hockey versus Wisconsin has been postponed after a positive COVID-19 case within the Wisconsin program, according to an MSU Athletics release.

The decision was made in agreement with medical officials from both Wisconsin and Michigan State. The series is expected to be rescheduled.

Wisconsin (5-5-0) and Michigan State (2-3-1) both last played Thursday and Friday with Wisconsin playing at Ohio State.

For Michigan State, this series was supposed to be the end of a stretch in which the Spartans played six games in 12 days. Through the last four games, MSU posted a 1-3-0 record, with an overtime win at Ohio State to start. Since then, MSU has fallen into a three-game losing skid with a loss to Ohio State and two losses to Minnesota.

For Wisconsin, this was their last scheduled series of December. The Big Ten has yet to release the second half of the schedule past the 12 games every team is playing by the New Year.

Michigan State will have a nearly two-week break until their next scheduled series at Notre Dame Dec. 19-20.
