However, according to the polls, Biden currently holds the lead on both the state and national levels. In Michigan, Biden is currently up by nine points over Trump. 

Trump said looking at the crowd filled by thousands, “there has never been a campaign in this country with more enthusiasm or bigger crowds.” After being diagnosed with and recovering from COVID-19 earlier this month, Trump claims he now has immunity to catching it again.

“I want to say because I am a very young person that’s in perfect physical shape, I took that virus and I woke up the next morning and I felt like Superman,” Trump said. “You see this crowd right here? I could jump right in, I could give every woman and every man — I’d even kiss the men — I could give every woman and every man right here a kiss and I wouldn’t catch it, I have immunity.”

According to Trump, his son, Baron Trump, recovered in “about 12 minutes,” stating young kids have a very strong immune system and calling on Whitmer to let the children back in school.

These comments raised against Whitmer, including calls on her to reopen the state, prompted a chant from the crowd to “lock her up.”

“I don’t comment on that because every time, even I make just a little bit of a nod, they say the president led them. I don’t have to lead you,” Trump said.

A Supreme Court decision on Oct. 2 ruled Whitmer no longer had the authority to declare a state of emergency after April 30 and canceled all emergency orders made under the 1954 Emergency Power of the Governor Act (EPGA). A request by Whitmer to delay the decision until Oct. 30 was denied Oct. 12.

Throughout his presidency, Trump has actively spoken out against the Governor and her COVID-19 response in Michigan which have limited gatherings, capacities and made face coverings mandatory throughout the state. 

In Michigan, many businesses and restaurants are currently operating under COVID-19 guidelines and recreational facilities — including gyms, arcades and movie theaters — have begun opening back up. 

On Oct. 8, news broke of a thwarted plot to kidnap the governor and storm the Michigan Capitol. According to Trump Tuesday, his Justice Department helped her with “her problem” and Whitmer chose to blame him instead.

A COVID-19 vaccine, he claimed, is right around the corner and normal life will fully resume.

“Take us back seven months ago, we want normal life. We had the greatest economy in the history of our country and that’s what we want — normal life,” Trump said.

On Monday, Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy left following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump said she will defend the American rights, liberties and freedoms.

According to The Washington Post, Barrett’s previous refusal to support the 2015 Supreme Court decision granting same-sex couples the right to marry has alarmed LGBTQ activists worried about her position on the Court. Barrett has likewise declined to pass judgment on other court precedents instrumental in the progression of embracing gay rights, the article states. 

Addressing the crowd, Trump said he has been a president who stands up for the “great state of Michigan.” On the construction of car plants across the state, Trump said no one has done what he has for this state.

Biden, on the other hand, he said, has run a campaign based on raising taxes. According to the Biden tax policy, taxes will not be raised on anyone making less than $400,000 and the corporate tax rate will be raised to 28%. The top individual tax rate would be raised back to 39.6%.

Among other policies, Trump said he will continue to protect American families, fight for American workers, support the police, defend the Second Amendment, secure the borders and ensure more products are made in the USA.

“This is the most important election in the history of our country,” Trump said. “On Nov. 3 we must finish the job and drain the swamp once and for all.”
