Michigan State University will host three new segments of Spartan Fireside next week to discuss uncertainties around COVID-19 learning and campus life for fall semester.
According to their mission statement, the Spartan Fireside webinar was started by The Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology as a way to help students adjust to online learning after MSU transitioned to remote learning March 11.
“To further help you in moving to remote teaching, facilitators from colleges across MSU, the Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology, and IT will host a series of trainings, workshops, and opportunities to stay connected via Zoom Webinar," the website said. "The upcoming schedule and offerings will be updated regularly based on feedback and need.”
Next week’s episodes will feature Associate Provost for Teaching, Learning and Technology Jeff Grabill, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of Undergraduate Studies Mark Largent and other members of the MSU community.
Grabill, Largent and others will discuss uncertainties regarding the fall semester and answer questions surrounding them by those who join in on the conversation.
The discussion regarding COVID-19 and MSU is broken up into three segments stretching from Monday to Wednesday, looking at different aspects of COVID-19's potential and immediate impact at the university.
The segments are as follows:
- Monday, July 13: The group will address how MSU will respond to uncertainties around COVID-19 in the fall.
- Tuesday, July 14: The group will answer questions and discuss what MSU’s learning experience will be like in the fall. MSU has already asked faculty to move 75 percent of courses online to limit in-person contact and the spread of COVID-19.
- Wednesday, July 15: The group will look at the campus experience with COVID precautions in place. President Stanley announced June 26 that masks will be required on campus both indoors and outdoors and encouraged students to practice social distancing while on campus.
Each episode will run from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will be recorded and uploaded to their past recordings page.
