Another prominent piece of the 2019-20 Michigan State hockey team has landed with an NHL organization. It was announced today that senior forward Patrick Khodorenko has agreed to terms with the New York Rangers on an entry-level deal. Khodorenko is the second Spartan to sign a deal this week, as teammate Jerad Rosburg officially joined the Dallas Stars organization on Monday.

In 36 games this season, Khodorenko collected totals of 16 goals and 32 points, both leading the team. He finished his MSU career with 120 points in 143 games and anchored the top forward line alongside junior Mitchell Lewandowski and senior Sam Saliba this past season.

Not only was he a force on the ice, but he had also elevated his leadership qualities over the course of his tenure at Michigan State, causing him to be voted an assistant captain by his teammates prior to the season. His 13 goals in conference games this season led the Big Ten, while his 22 points placed him tied for fourth.

Back in late January, Khodorenko became the first Spartan since Tim Crowder in 2009 to reach 50 goals on his career. The milestone came during a win over Penn State, a game in which Khodorenko recorded a hat-trick. The standout forward is also a candidate for the Hobey Baker award, given annually to the best player in college hockey.

Khodorenko is expected to report to the Hartford Wolf Pack, the AHL affiliate of the Rangers.
