In a press conference held to clarify enforcement of an executive order prohibiting public gatherings with more than 250 people, Linda Vail, Ingham County health officer, said they are telling restaurants and bars to reduce capacity by half.
Oakland County implemented similar measures that go in effect tomorrow until April 5.
This comes after bars were packed following the announcement that Michigan State was moving to online classes amid the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
"This is a pandemic and everyone has a role to play," Vale said.
This order coincides with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer prohibiting group assembly exceeding 250 individuals in an effort to promote social distancing and limit the spread of COVID-19.
Establishments that don't cooperate with the order could have their liquor license revoked, Attorney General Dana Nessel said.
