The Big Ten Conference announced today that they will be canceling the remainder of the men's basketball tournament in Indianapolis due to the novel coronavirus.
In a press release, the conference indicated that they working towards developing their next move.
"The Big Ten Conference will use this time to work the appropriate medical experts and institutional leadership to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic," the conference said in a statement.
"The main priority of the Big Ten Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus."
With the cancellation, the Big Ten joined the ACC, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 as Power 5 conferences in canceling their respective tournaments. Group of Five conferences such as the A-10, AAC, C-USA and MAC also announced that they will be calling their tournaments off as well.
This announcement comes after a day after the NCAA said that they will be playing the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournament games without fans.
