—Senior guard Joshua Langford was expected to round out a deep and experienced preseason no. 1 roster for Michigan State.
Two weeks before the season, it was announced that he suffered another stress reaction in his left foot, an injury that originally sidelined him for the majority of the 2018-19 season. While he was originally set to be re-evaluated in January, Head Coach Tom Izzo said later that he didn’t expect Langford to be back this year.
Izzo confirmed that presumption Thursday, officially declaring the senior guard out for the rest of the 2019-20 season.
Although the 6 foot, 5 inch guard played in only 13 games last year, his 29 three-pointers made was on pace for most on the roster, had he played the whole season. His shooting ability has been sorely missed so far, as the Spartans are shooting a pedestrian 32.2% from long range this year.
Langford said in October that this would be his last season in East Lansing. That, of course, was when he was penned to be reevaluated in January. Neither he nor Izzo has given any indication of whether that determination has changed since.
