After a defining road win against No. 12 Seton Hall last Thursday, No. 3 Michigan State returns home on Monday to host unranked Charleston Southern. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m at the Breslin Center (BTN).
The Buccaneers (1-3) enter Monday on a three game losing streak, with their most recent loss at Dayton Friday night.
Sophomore point guard Dontrell Shuler carries the Buccaneer squad and will be the main contender against the Spartans. The 6 foot, 2 inch, South Carolina native averages 20 points per game and is coming off of a game high of 24 points against Dayton.
With four freshmen and five sophomores, the Buccaneers are a fairly young team.
Last season, Charleston Southern went 18-16 and were ranked 11th in the country for turnovers.
As for the Spartans, senior guard Cassius Winston leads the team, averaging 19.7 points and 6.7 assists per game.
The Spartans will likely show some of their newcomers the floor tonight, including Rocket Watts, who made his first big move for the Spartans with a three-pointer that put MSU ahead of Seton Hall in the final minutes last Thursday.
Freshman forward Malik Hall will likely see the floor too after his coming out party in Newark. Hall has already accumulated an average of 5.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
This will be the first time Charleston Southern and MSU see each other on the court. The matchup is a mainland game of the Maui Invitational.
