Another week, another starter down for Michigan State.

Coach Mark Dantonio announced Tuesday afternoon that junior tight end Matt Dotson tore his achilles in last week's 37-34 loss to Illinois and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Dotson went down in the first half against the Illini while running a route, and immediately grabbed for his right leg. In seven games this year, Dotson caught 16 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown, which came in the Spartans' 51-17 win over Western Michigan in Week 2. He previously missed Michigan State's game at Northwestern, where his backup Matt Seybert scored his first two career touchdowns.

Seybert is the new listed starter ahead of Trenton Gillison, Parks Gissinger and Adam Berghorst.

Josiah Scott, who left the game against Illinois late in the second half is listed as a starter on Michigan State's depth chart ahead of its game against Michigan this Saturday (12 p.m., FOX). Dantonio said that the junior cornerback is "expected to play."

Senior wideout Darrell Stewart Jr. was missing from the depth chart for the second consecutive game. He was seen on the field pregame last week with a boot on his left foot, as well as in the press box with crutches. Sophomore WR C.J. Hayes and offensive lineman Tyler Higby each returned to the depth chart after missing last Saturday's game.

Higby, a senior from Houston, Texas, was listed as a co-starter at left tackle along with AJ Arcuri, who started at the position against Penn State and the Illini. After their first-career starts against Illinois, true freshmen Nick Samac and J.D. Duplain are each listed as co-starters against the Wolverines. Samac is at center along with Blake Bueter, while Duplain is at left guard along with Luke Campbell — who did not practice and missed the Illinois game due to an illness.

"I thought J.D. played very, very well," Dantonio said. "I thought Nick Samac played very, very well."

Dantonio stated during his press conference that he expects both of the true freshmen to start again on Saturday.

After leading the Spartans in tackles against Illinois, sophomore Noah Harvey is once again in the starting lineup for Michigan State, as well as Antjuan Simmons and Tyriq Thompson at the other linebacker positions.

"I thought Noah played pretty well for his first time out," Dantonio said. "He had nine tackles. I think he had a sack, maybe a pass break up. The one pass break up, probably prevented an interception, but hey, we'll go with it. I thought he played pretty well. He was confident and ran his feet on contact and he was aggressive."

Rutgers Route

Michigan State will finish its road schedule next week when it travels to New Jersey to play the Scarlet Knights on Nov. 23. The Big Ten announced Monday that the game will be a noon kick off and be televised on Fox Sports 1. The Spartans, who sit at 4-5 on the year, still are in need of two more wins to reach bowl eligibility.

Following its games against the Wolverines and Rutgers, Michigan State hosts Maryland on Nov. 30 for senior day.
