It's official. Michigan State basketball's first foe, Kentucky has taken the Spartans' No. 1 spot in the AP poll. The Spartans now sit at No. 3 with Duke swooping in and moving up two spots, to No. 2.
The Spartans (1-1) have moved down two spots after their turnover heavy opening performance lead to a 69-62 loss against Kentucky in the Champions Classic on Nov. 5. MSU came back on Nov. 10 with a dominating home win against Binghamton, but still struggled with shots from behind the arc.
Kentucky takes No. 1 with 64 of 65 first-place votes. It marks the first time they have sat at No. 1 since early in the 2016-17 season.
Kentucky may stay there for a while too. The Wildcats will not play another ranked team until Dec. 21 against current No. 16 Ohio State.
Duke takes No. 2 after upsetting Kansas in the Champions Classic's other top-4 matchup. The loss bumps Kansas down two spots to No. 5.
No. 4 Louisville has replaced Kansas in the top four, moving up one spot after winning its first two games against unranked Miami and Youngstown St.
No. 16 Ohio State is the only other Big Ten team besides the Spartans with a spot in the Top 25. The Buckeyes (2-0) are up two spots from their preseason position.
