Weston Bridges' time at Michigan State is over. Bridges, a redshirt sophomore from Akron, Ohio, became the fourth Spartan to put his name in the NCAA transfer portal this season.

Bridges confirmed his decision to The State News on Monday afternoon.

Bridges had a career at Michigan State filled with what-ifs due to injury and position changes. In his final high school game, he tore his left ACL. He tore it again in fall camp when he arrived at Michigan State in 2017, which caused him to redshirt his first season.

In six games last year, Bridges rushed for 53 yards on 16 carries, headlined by a 36-yard game at Maryland to help the Spartans become bowl eligible. He made the transition from running back to wideout during fall camp before the 2019 season.

He hadn't seen the field in any of MSU's seven games and did not dress against Indiana, Ohio State and Wisconsin. When asked about his absence following Michigan State's 40-31 win against the Hoosiers, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio cited a "minor team rules infraction."

Bridges joins former MSU running backs Connor Heyward, La'Darius Jefferson and former linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle as players to enter their names into the portal this season.

Michigan State is on a bye this week and will host No. 7 Penn State next Saturday, Oct. 26 at Spartan Stadium (3:30 p.m., ABC).
