Following a standout performance against No. 22 Rutgers (6-1-2) this past Friday, sophomore forward Farai Mutatu was named Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week.

During the Big Ten opener Mutatu came out strong. He added a first period assist, aiding sophomore midfielder Olu Ogunwale in scoring his first career goal.

Mutatu added the icing onto the cake in what was an offensive explosion against Rutgers, with a score late in the second half, putting the Spartans up 3-0.

The performance added to an already strong sophomore season for Mutatu, who has logged over 700 minutes of playing time and leads the Spartans with three points.

This marks Mutatu’s first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award. He will look to keep the impressive play going, as the Spartans get deeper into conference play.
