Tom Fehrenbach has been selected to serve as the the city of East Lansing's planning, building and development director, the city released Sept. 17.

He replaces Tim Dempsey, who left the post this summer.

Fehrenbach was the city's Community and Economic Development Administrator since October 2017. He has also worked other development jobs in Oakland County, Michigan and Palo Alto, California.

Fehrenbach will oversee 30 full-time and 10 part-time employees.

East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas said Fehrenbach's previous work in Michigan and California prepared him to take on this role.

"Tom’s work ethic, leadership and positive outlook are strong assets that will help him drive continued progress in the East Lansing Department of Planning, Building and Development and the City as a whole," Lahanas said.
