The Hub On Campus experiences delays on move-in day

August 21, 2019

Move-in day for about 600 residents of The Hub On Campus East Lansing, a new apartment building at Grand River Ave. and Bogue Street, was been delayed multiple times Wednesday. The Hub had to await shipments of furniture and an approval for a certificate of occupancy from the city of East Lansing before residents could begin moving in, according to several emails from The Hub.

Residents were notified of the delay via email early Wednesday morning.

The Hub Property Manager Travis Hotz addressed residents in an email, stating that the reason behind the late start was due to The Hub’s furniture provider rescheduling the arrival of furniture during the originally scheduled move-in time. To speed up the process, they delayed move-in in order for residents to have full use of the elevators.

Move-in was set to begin as early as 8 a.m. Wednesday morning for a select few individuals. Time slots for those moving in at 8 a.m. were changed to 10:30 a.m., so there was an overload of the amount of residents trying to move in at the 10:30 a.m. slot.

The Hub's leasing office was full of students. The line to move in was out of the building and overflowed onto Grand River.

Hotz stated in a second email that the final installation of the furniture was being taken care of.

“At this time, Hub On Campus has passed all state-required inspections for move in,” Hotz said in the email.

The Hub agreed to reimburse residents for their lunches due to the inconveniences they faced. Free water bottles were also handed out.

As of 2:46 p.m. Wednesday, residents received an email that the city staff was evaluating The Hub to finalize approval for documentation of occupancy and that move-in was set to continue once a certificate of occupancy was confirmed by the East Lansing Building Department Staff.

An email arrived at 3:31 p.m. stated that residents are able to move in, as inspection of The Hub has been completed and the certificate was granted.
