East Lansing Police Department reported 12 fires set after Michigan State beat out Duke for a spot in the Final Four 68-67 on March 31.

East Lansing Police Department reported fires at:

  • Cedar Street and Waters Edge Drive.
  • Evergreen Avenue and Albert Street.
  • Two fires at Stoddard Avenue and Frye Avenue.
  • 587 Virginia Avenue.
  • 135 Collingwood Drive.
  • 400 block Abbot Road.
  • 505 M.A.C. Avenue.
  • Beech Street and Spartan Avenue.
  • Beech Street and Charles Avenue.

One fire's location is unknown and a report for another fire is still being completed.

Other than the property burned, no property damages were reported, according to East Lansing Police Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez.

The fire reported at Cedar Street and Water's Edge Drive was lit by fans in Cedar Village.

Gonzalez said 600 to 800 people gathered in Cedar Village, burning a couch, throwing glass bottles and blocking Grand River Avenue.

The fire burned an estimated 20 minutes before police broke up the crowd and extinguished the fire. Two 20-year-old men were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, according to Gonzalez.
