With the Stanley Cup playoffs opening Wednesday night, here is a list of Spartans who are in the NHL.
This season is Mason Appleton's first in the NHL playing with the Winnipeg Jets. Appleton was named AHL Rookie of the Year in 2018. In 36 games played this season, he has had three goals and seven assists. While with the Spartans, he played for two seasons in the green and white starting in 72 games with 17 goals and 19 assists.
Torey Krug began his NHL career during the 2012-13 season. He has been played 462 games for the Boston Bruins. Within those games Krug has 58 goals and 230 assists. He is also the last Spartan hockey player, before current Detroit Red Wing's forward Taro Hirose, to be nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
This is Mackenzie MacEachern's first season with the St. Louis Blues. So far, he has played 29 games with a total of 3 goals and 2 assists. In his final season as a Spartan, the former forward tallied 14 goals and 16 assists in 37 games.
The first NHL Stanley Cup playoff game begins at 7 p.m. when the Columbus Blue Jackets take on Tampa Bay Lightning.
