Both northbound lanes of Abbot Road between Grand River Avenue and Albert Avenue will be closed from Monday, March 25 until approximately Monday, April 8, according to an East Lansing Police Department advisory.

As a part of the Center City District redevelopment project, a water main is being replaced in an alley behind the businesses on Grand River Avenue between Abbot Road and M.A.C. Avenue. Around April 8, one northbound lane of Abbot Road will be reopened.

The west side of the alley will be closed from Urban Outfitters to Abbot Road until approximately May 6. This is also when the other northbound lane of Abbot Road is expected to reopen.

The water main replacement project will be done in two phases, with the second phase expected to begin in late May, according to the advisory. This section will include the same alley from behind Lou and Harry's to M.A.C. Avenue. Information about the second phase will be released when details are finalized.

Pedestrian access to surrounding businesses will remain open and East Lansing Department of Public Works staff will be on-site during the water main replacement project.

The Center City project includes more than 300 rental housing units and a new Target. A 620-space parking structure is included and additional retail space will be available.
