After helping the Spartans to a split at then-No. 11 Penn State last Saturday, junior forward, Taro Hirose, was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week on Tuesday.

Aside from scoring two goals and adding two assists for MSU over the weekend, the junior earned the primary assist on Saturday's game winner by Mitchell Lewandowski.

Hirose currently leads the nation in both points (35) and assists (24). On Saturday night, he earned his 100th and 101st career point throughout his three seasons in the green and white uniform.

Tuesday's award marks the third career weekly award for Hirose. It’s his first since Nov. 27 when he received a Big Ten Second Star award.

Hirose and the Spartans will take on Minnesota at 5:30 p.m on Saturday at Munn Ice Arena.
