Elementary education sophomore Alison Deboodt is pictured with QUE’s smoked brisket sandwich at the International Center on Jan. 7, 2019. The other proteins available are pulled pork and smoked Michigan turkey.

The food court in the International Center welcomed a new dining venue, QUE, which replaced Union Pizzeria.

QUE is a barbecue restaurant that features over 10 barbecue sauce flavors diners can choose from to customize their orders.

The grand-opening event, held Monday, allowed customers to sample various menu items including macaroni and cheese, smoked Michigan turkey, smoked brisket and slow-roasted pulled pork.

Advertising junior Trevor Bonney thinks QUE is a welcome addition to the Crossroads Food Court.

"The International Center could use more restaurants. I think students are getting tired of Panda [Express], Woody's and Subway," Bonney said.

Bonney sampled the smoked turkey and macaroni and cheese and gave them his seal of approval. He also believes QUE serving Faygo products is another added bonus it brings.

"Everyone should be able to taste Faygo products," Bonney said.

Mechanical Engineering junior Allison Bell was also ecstatic to find Faygo at QUE; however, she believes Union Pizzeria had one advantage over QUE.

"A year or two ago the Union Pizzeria used to have pasta bakes, which were amazing. Last semester, they just switched to just pizza, and it wasn't that great," Bell said. "I'm fine with them having this, but I wish they would go back to having pasta bakes instead of this, personally."

Accounting senior Scott Tobin loves barbecue and believes it will be a hit with his fellow barbecue-lovers. He sees QUE having the upper hand over Union Pizzeria because it offers a type of food that isn't offered anywhere else on campus.

"I'd come here a lot more than I would go to the pizzeria beforehand. There's pizza at The Union too, but there was never a barbecue option really," Tobin said. "This is the first barbecue place."

Chemical Engineering senior Christine Mason also misses some of Union Pizzeria's offerings but is excited to try out QUE's menu. But, most of all she's excited for Faygo.

"I'm so excited, Faygo's my favorite," said Mason.

Like other on-campus dining locations, QUE will allow students to use their Combo-X-Change for their choice of sandwich, side and beverage.

Students can find QUE's menu on the Eat at State website, and the restaurant is open during normal food court hours.
