Vernon Carey Jr., the No. 2 basketball recruit in the country, chose Duke over Michigan State today at an announcement at his high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Carey, a 6’10” center and son of former NFL offensive lineman Vernon Carey Sr. was subject to a late push by the Spartans, visiting East Lansing on Nov. 10, but in the end, it was another five-star get by coach Mike Krzyzewski over Tom Izzo.
Michigan State’s 2019 class currently features four-star forward Malik Hall, who has signed his letter of intent, and four-star point guard Mark “Rocket” Watts, who has not signed but is considered a hard commitment.
