The Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center will showcase the Michigan Made Holiday Exhibition Tuesdays through Saturdays until Dec. 22.
The exhibit, free to browse, includes pottery, sculpture, jewelry and leather goods available to purchase from artists across the state.
“This show is geared toward offering people an alternative opportunity to shop (for) gifts for the holidays,” said exhibitions and gallery sales director Katrina Daniels. “Instead of purchasing something that's mass-produced, you can purchase something that is handmade by somebody locally.”
When curating the exhibition with artist Debbie Carlos, Daniels wanted to include works by highly skilled creators that were affordable for the holidays. She said this particular exhibit brings in artists who do not normally show their work throughout the year.
Artists on display include MSU students and alumni, so the exhibition is a way to support that community, Daniels said.
“I love being able to support these artists and makers because each one of these people are small business entrepreneurs,” Daniels said. “We're supporting their work as a small business and giving them an opportunity to make a living doing what they really love.”
